Thankful Turkeys

One year for Thanksgiving, I drew a different turkey for each guest at my table. I printed them on cards and put them in envelopes. Each envelope had the name of the guest on it and it worked well for name plates on the table.

Before we started our meal, I had each guest open up their card. They each got the gift of seeing a turkey doing something they had done or currently liked to do. Then we passed the cards around the table and everyone wrote one thing they were grateful about that person inside their card. The comments written in each card were more valuable than my meager drawing.

I’ve done a similar activity with a group of teenagers and a group of adults. Each time the result was fantastic. People felt loved and appreciated in a way that was sincere and specific.

This year, I invite you to create a stronger bond between the people at your dinner table.
